One of Germany’s states, Bremen, has recently lowered the voting age to sixteen. See this story. The article says Austria had previously lowered the voting age to sixteen. Thanks to Sam Harley for the link.

Once upon a time, a 12 year old was deemed an adult in DARK AGE England — at least for purposes of being used as cannon/sword fodder in the regime’s wars.

    Seems fair…

  3. If you’re old enough to work, then you are old enough to vote.

Here’s hoping the USA will lower the voting age.

Just wondering, is Germany as enlightened as we are about corporate “persons” playing in their political arena?

Can German corporate “persons” who were incorporated more recently than 16 years ago…vote?

Personally pretty anti-lowering voting age, its not because of the number but really about the social responsibility related to that age. Its probably a can of worms but in general I don’t think these people really care anyway.

If they themselves petitioned then I’d be more up for it because it’d feel like they actually wanted it, but in Europe it does feel like a strange gimmick to try and make more younger people vote. It is also a kind of contradiction that these people, probably still in some form of secondary education can be exposed to political ideologies but not talk about it in their school for fears of bias and indoctrination (but apparently ok to be indoctrinated as soon as they leave the school gates).
