Republican Party Moves Nomination Date from August 27 to August 28

The Republican National Convention will convene on August 27, but then will immediately recess until Tuesday, August 28. The presidential nomination will be on Tuesday. See this story. The reason for the delay is the possibility that tropical storm Isaac might interfere with the convention. Thanks to Chet Chin for the link.

Richard, I have a question about something unrelated to this article. Why is it constitutional for Congress to require that 2 members of the District of Columbia city council not be Democrats? Doesn’t that disenfranchise voters who wish to vote straight Democratic ticket? I have been arguing with some people at IPR about whether it is constitutional or not. Here is where we are discussing it: http://www.independentpoliticalreport.com/2012/06/libertarian-bruce-majors/

#1, I don’t think limited voting is unconstitutional. That would be like saying that all laws requiring a vote of 2/3rds to pass something are unconstitutional.
